JOB DESCRIPTION – CONFIGURATION MANAGER
Role and Responsibilities
The Configuration Manager will be responsible for the Project Management Consultant (PMC) project configuration management and document control functions.
The Configuration Manager will work closely with the following PMC staff positions: Cost Engineer, Cost Estimating, Scheduling, Risk Management, and Project Control Management Systems/IT Support.
The Configuration Manager will supervise two Document Control Assistants who will perform the project document control duties.
Responsibilities – Configuration Management
Project configuration management responsibilities include:
* Establish and managing the project’s business processes and supporting computer systems technology for the configuration management of transit project through its project life cycle of design, procurement, construction, and start-up
* Configuration management functions comprehend the establishment of the scope of the project’s physical, performance, and functional baseline requirements and the management of changes to the requirements baseline in terms of change submission, tracking, approval, and validation of implementation
* Principal duties involve:
o Configuration management planning to determine the project baseline to be controlled, the control workflow processes, and roles and responsibilities
o Document management (see Responsibilities – Document Control below)
o Baseline management to capture and archive the status of the project’s approved physical, performance, and functional requirements, and the document audit trail of changes to the baseline status
o Change management to control the project process for the approval (or denial) of changes impacting the project baseline and the identification of their impact on project scope, schedule, and/or budget
Responsibilities – Document Control
Project document control responsibilities include:
* Establish the project’s document management workflow processes and oversee their implementation
* Management, tracking and archiving of project documents related to:
o Administrative record of:
+ Legacy documents (project planning and approval)
+ Current Documents (project implementation)
o Project Implementation documents include design, procurement, construction, and start-up phase records as generated by: project stakeholders; project management, design, and other consultants; and construction contractors and suppliers during project implementation
o Configuration management document records
o Final disposition of documents to the project owner/client
Qualifications and Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
* Engineering degree
* Professional Certification from bodies concerned with the practice of configuration management such as software engineering and the Project Management Institute (PMI)
Experience
Preferred experience includes:
* 5 – 10 years of progressively responsible experience in configuration management on engineering and construction projects
* Transit and Rail project experience
* Familiarity with configuration management and associated systems such as Primavera Contract Manager
